So how does Virtual Veterinary Dermatologists (VVD) work?
Our aim is to be able to offer both written advice via our special owner help forms or telemedicine consultations arranged through your own vet. Our new telemedicine service allows everyone to get help for their pet whatever its size.
Our advice forms can be used by you to help manage your pet’s skin or ear problem or can be taken to your own vet if our consultants recommend specific tests or drugs. We are of course also very happy for your vet to contact us directly through the veterinary helpline.
Online request forms
To get help and advice on a case from one of our Veterinary Dermatology experts just fill out the owner advice request form in the owner section and attach photos (in focus if you can and please include a close up of the affected area) of your pet’s skin or ear problem. One of our experts will then get a written report back to you within 48 hours to give you some pointers on the type of skin disease your pet may be suffering from and what you should do as the next step. This may be as simple as purchasing a special shampoo or if we think the skin disease is serious we may suggest you need to see your vet. There is a cost for the report but if you are registered with a veterinary practice, you can also use that report to help your vet to manage your pet’s skin more effectively. Alternatively your vet can contact us directly.
Login - OR - Register
In addition to our online advice service, if you are already registered with a veterinary practice, we can also arrange through your own vet a remote teleconsultation with one of our dermatologists. This will be done at your own veterinary practice via the internet. Although the dermatologist obviously won’t be able to examine your pet directly they will be able to visualise the skin, talk to you and your vet and provide specific advice. After each teleconsultation our dermatologist will produce a report for you and your vet on the type of skin problem that they suspect and the further investigations and therapy which can be undertaken by your vet. We are happy to quote your vet for a teleconsult if they feel this would be useful.
Face to face dermatology consultation
Alternatively if you feel you would like to have a face to face consultation with one of our Dermatologists we can advise your vet which of our consultants is closest to you so your vet can refer you to them to see them personally. Regretfully consultants cannot see you unless you are referred by your own primary care veterinary surgeon. Our consultant can advise your vet on their list of charges if your vet contacts us.

Current Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons guidelines do not allow our Specialists to prescribe prescription drugs over the internet. However many of the products routinely prescribed for skin conditions don’t need prescriptions and we can recommend these to you. Click here to browse our Shop.
